Designers Marcel Sigel and Alana Di Giacomo are the complimentary duo behind ‘zuii’. Based in Melbourne, Australia, the studio evolved from a desire for personal expression in their work and is founded on the notion that design should be impassioned, provoking the emotions, feelings and behaviour of those who come into contact with it.
‘We are establishing our own unique style of design formed from an interest in the surreal, beauty in form and simple functionality. We create pieces that are slightly obscure and enhance an environment; something that draws you into the design and makes you look at it more than twice, and ultimately builds a connection. We have clear plans of realising objects destined to live outside themselves, in a sense containing a new perspective and movement in its space. Our realisations are a permanent dialogue between two individualistic people who share the same goal and vision’.
Their designs can be characterised as idiosyncratic and fresh. On one side is the understated and disguised, on the other, the bright and noticeable, alluding to both the hidden and visible strength of an object.
